Types of Individual Counseling Approaches

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy techniques are design to assist the individuals with changing their thinking or behaviors in order to reduce or eliminate challenges they are facing.  Clinician may assign homework tasks, engage in role playing or implement relaxation activities with the individuals.

  • Client-Centered Therapy works with individuals to reach their full potential as human being though their own understanding and creativity.  The clinician will provide the individuals with empathy, genuineness and unconditional positive reinforcement.

  •  Systemic Family Therapy assists individuals with identifying how systems such as family, school and/or employment influence their behavior or psychological issues.  Once the clinician has an understanding of the family dynamic, they can work to shift the barriers to a position that is less damaging to the individuals.

  • Narrative Therapy enables individuals to tell their own stories as they are the expert of their life. Individuals are able to share their perception and responses to challenges which shape and influence their decision-making process.  The clinician will assist the individual through externalization while using deconstruction techniques to help individuals re-author their stories.
